Why some celebs find the need to flash money

In life you find two types of celebrities: those like Lira and Patrice Motsepe who are down to earth, humble and don’t feel the need to flash their money in front of others and then you have your Khanyi Mbau’s and Kenny Kunene’s who spend money recklessly.
Khanyi Mbau who was married to the former millionaire, Mandla Mthembu, who is now in debt, had the “I don’t care” attitude when she spent money. In an interview with Drum magazine, she proudly told the journalist that her 3year old daughter wears designer clothes all the way from the USA. Mbau, who you’d find in the social pages every week had a young child at home but that did not stop her from partying every weekend.

The “Queen of Bling” as she called herself and was known by fans all over the country because of her expensive diamond jewellery she wore on a regular basis. Khanyi Mbau was not afraid to admit that she spent R50 000 on a weave (and then one would ask themselves, what kind of weave is that that?). Now all this money she spent was that of her 50year old husband (when they started dating and she was only 21 when she got married to him).

Today she and Mandla are divorced and he was in debt when they got divorced and she has since gone a little quiet, she’s no longer on every social page of every week. Is this because her current boyfriend is not a millionaire or has she learnt to respect money and herself more? Well, only she can answer that question.
Now what kind of messages was she sending to young females out there? That it’s alright to date a man who is old enough to be your father and spend money and flash it in the faces of those who are poor???

  1. I think it is really unfair that Khanyisile Mbau should be judged like that. It was her preference to date an older guy and she did not go around telling young girls to do what she does. People should learn to be their own individuals and stop doing what celebrities do.

    1. I'm not saying she went out and told young girls to date older men, all i'm asking is what kind of message was she sending out to young girls who are given the ideology that dating older men is wrong?

  5. i know that Celebrities are the people who we look up and must send a good message to us as young stars and as our role models. we are all individuals and free to make any decisions, celebrities like Khanyi mbau might have a negative impact on young stars but lets face it we all have our functioning brains, we see how they live and how it ends and lastly no one forces anyone to date an older person for money.

    1. Yes, we all make our choices and have to live with the consequences.

  6. Celebrities are human beings too and they have a life to live but they are under too much pressure from the public's perceptions and that is the reason they flash cash like they do.

  7. Khanyi Mbau was obviously sending the wrong message to the youth because it is not every young individual that will not be influenced by such behaviour, some might see it as a culture which needss to be followed in order to be liked or to be famous.

    1. That is my point exactly, she was sending out the wrong message, be it intentional or unintentional.

  8. I think that Khanyi Mbau learned her lesson on how to handle herself and her money that is the reason why she is nolonger on every magazine and I believe that we should give her a chance to proof her self that she has changed.

  9. I think that she has set a bad example but i can also say that values instilled also count. And i also think that now she is not all over about herself doing a R50 000 weave because her current boy friend do not believe in show offs.

    1. It sure has been a while since she had people talking, we've gotten used to seeing her on magazines and newspapers all the time. So yes, maybe the media does miss her.

  14. Although we share the same name Khanyi Mbau is on of those people that I don't look up to. She is a gold digger and a very bad role model.

  15. Some of our celebrities i must say they lack brains, some are not matured, others love status, others want attension and we also have those who behave well. Mbau is one of the craziest celebs who love fency life while is not even having cash.

    1. This one was just into status, nothing more nothing less. She hasn't done anything positive to show that she's a positive role model to the young girls of South Africa.

  16. Oh yes KeaRams, that's the exact message she's giving out to the public. She did come out as being selfish, self-centred and like she doesn't care. If she had everything that she claimed to have from her childhood, why does she feel the need to flaunt it so much? I agree with you Thembanator this is what I call being brainless.

    1. There is no justification for how she acted, she may try to sugar-coat it all she wants but the truth still remains...she was flashing money and wasting it in the faces of the poor and needy.
